UN-OHCHR – Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is offering a position as Associate Human Rights Officer based in Geneva. He/She will participate in identifying and specifying the needs of governments for advisory services and technical cooperation as well as in the preparation and implementation of respective country projects. Additionally the successful candidate will participate in the systematic collection and analysis of information regarding the human rights situation in one or several countries of a given region and in the preparation of reports, documents and other written materials thereon. Also the successful candidate will assist Special Rapporteurs/Representatives/Experts/Working Groups, in the preparation and supervision of field missions and timely submission of reports. She/He will have a University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights. At least two years of professional experience at national and/or international levels in the field of human rights are required to apply for this position. The successful candidate will conduct legal research on a diverse range of assigned issues in criminal law, international law, international humanitarian law and other area(s) of specialization using multiple research sources; select relevant material, analyse information and present findings for internal review in either written or oral form; Among the duties of this position is furthermore to assist in the preparation of legal opinions and advice, draft background memoranda, decisions and judgments of the Tribunal; Furthermore among the duties of this position is to assist the Judges and the Senior Legal Officer in the preparation and management of cases, and drafting of decisions during the pre-trial and pre-appeal phase of proceedings; Eligible candidates must hold a University degree in law with specialisation in international, criminal or humanitarian law. Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible legal experience, at either the national or international level, with emphasis in criminal law, international law or humanitarian law are needed to qualify for this vacancy.
