  • I am very interested in working for the UN and or any of its agencies, including the international voluntary organisation. I hold an LLB and to position myself for this, I obtaines a Masters Degree in International Law and Diplomacy with a special bias in International Humanitarian Law and Law of International Institutions. I worked with Shell BP (Nigeria) for 13 years and while there in addition to my normal Legal duties as a Senior Legal Counsel, I was appointed Shell Human Right Champion and to discharge this duty well, I was trained and certified by Danish Institute of Human Right and I trained over 2000 staff on Human Right Awareness and Conflict Resolution, I championed, defense and advised on staff and other stakeholder’ Human Right issues. Now I want to take these experiences to work for one of these agencies but unfortunately, each time, I read your job profiles I mustt see one requirement or the other to disqualify me, if it not fluency in Arabic or some language, it is some years of experience in these agencies.
    I now ask,
    1. can’t one work in this area with only fluency in English and maybe learn any other language if need be
    2. Can’t one as a mature experienced professional like me enter the system unless I’ve worked there. 3. If all my 26 years experience as a lawyer including 13 years experience in Human Right practice and training is not enough, please advise me what I will need to do next to qualify.

    Kind regards,
    Felix Ugwumadu
