ICRC Traineeship in the Data Protection/Privacy office

The International Committee of the Red Cross is offering a paid traineeship in the Data Protection and Privacy Office. Following the adoption by the Directorate of the ICRC Rules on Personal Data Protection (the Rules) on 24 February 2015, the ICRC established a Data Protection Office to ensure the effective application of the Rules as well as the exercise of individuals’ data protection rights. Among the tasks of the trainee is to advise the ICRC divisions at the headquarters on the preparation and implementation of specific action plans for the application of the Rules. Furthermore the trainee will be advising on the application of the rules to the activities of the ICRC. He or she will also be coordinating the roll out of a data protection e-learning module. The successful candidate will have a university degree, ideally, a master degree in law and demonstrated interest in and knowledge of data protection. Fluency in English is required. The deadline to apply for this opportunity is Friday, 4 November 2016.

Sakharov Traineeships at the European Parliament

The European Parliament offers several options for draining ships within that secretariat to provide the opportunity for learning more about what the European Parliament does. The three types of traineeships available are the general option, open to any candidate who meets the criteria; the journalism option, in which the applicant must proof her or his professional experience in journalistic activities; the Sakharov Prize option, which aims to enhance the knowledge of the European Parliament’s human rights work and international human rights standards. Applicants must be nationals of an EU member state or an applicant country, and must have thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the EU. The trainee will receive a monthly stipend of € 1250. Application periods are between 15th of August and 15th of October as well as between 15th of March and 15th of May.

Frank Jennings Internship (Dublin and Geneva)

The Frank Jennings internship was established to give young human rights talents the opportunity to gain experience working for the protection of human rights defenders in an international NGO and the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The successful candidate spends three months at the office of Front Line Defenders in Dublin and and then moves to Geneva for six months, before returning to Dublin for further free months. The successful candidate must have excellent drafting skills and must have some knowledge of the UN system and international human rights law. He or she must be able to work in English and Spanish. The successful candidate will provide support to Front Line Defenders’ Protection Coordinators including dealing with routine queries and correspondence with human rights defenders. Additionally the successful candidate will gather information on the situation of human rights defenders around the world, and under the supervision of the Human Rights Defenders Assistant draft urgent appeals and communications to governments concerning human rights violations against human rights defenders. The salary of the intern is €1200 per month in Dublin and €1400 per month in Geneva. Apply until 15th November 2016.

The European Court of Human Rights Traineeships

The European Court of human rights is offering unpaid traineeship said the court for legal professionals with a university degree in law and sound knowledge of human rights issues especially regarding the convention. The successful candidates will be placed in one of the divisions dealing with publications, just satisfaction, research, press, the visitor’s unit or public relations. The European Court of human rights as well coming young graduates twice per year. The traineeships are not remunerated. Typical responsibilities of trainees include research work, assistance with work in hand, drafting of meeting reports, preparation of draft reports and studies for meetings of experts and updating websites. The period of enrolment for the first session 2017 is from 12th of September 2016 24th of November 2016.
