Media Freedom Project Officer
The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media is offering a vacancy for a Media Freedom Project Officer in Vienna, Austria. The Media Freedom Project Officer is responsible for proposing new activities and identifying project requirements based on political developments. Other duties of this position include designing project proposals, corresponding with partners, participating in fundraising efforts, monitoring media developments and governance, monitoring and analyzing the general media developments in five countries, preparing meeting agendas, drafting publications, and carrying out tasks as they become necessary. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in political science, media studies, journalism, or any relevant field is required for this position, along with at least 6 years of professional experience in media. Previous experience in the OSCE or another international organization would be an asset. S/he must have working knowledge of Microsoft programs and project management techniques. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another OSCE language would be an advantage for the application. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Senior Programme Officer
Article 19 is hiring a Senior Programme Officer (Europe and Central Asia) in London, England. The Senior Programme Officer is responsible for the daily management of projects, monitoring human rights development, evaluating the impact of Article 19 programs, contributing to program growth, leading Article 19 projects, developing new fundraising applications, and providing management to interns and consultants. A university degree or equivalent in a human rights related field is required. The candidate must be fluent in written and spoken English to be accepted. Proficiency in Russian would be an advantage. S/he will be expected to work 37.5 hours a week. The salary for this position is £40,720 – £43,265 and the duration of this contract will be one year with an included sabbatical. Attorney Position
The Reporters Committee has a vacancy for an Attorney for the Knight Litigation Project in Washington DC, USA. S/he will focus mainly on litigation in courts and public records and issues that involve the press’s freedom. A university degree in law is required for this position. The Attorney is required to have an experience in post-law judicial clerkship, litigation, fellowship, communication, or journalism. A candidate with prior experience in a law firm or public interest organization is desired. Applicants should be involved in at least one jurisdiction or awaiting bar exam results or admissions. The attorney will receive a salary of $68,000 a year with added health and dental benefits. After one year of service, all employees will be available in the 401(k) retirement program. Applications who have not already passed the D.C. Bar exam will be required to seek admission. Applicants who have less than one year of post-school experience must submit a transcript. Journalist Safety Specialist
The Committee to Protect Journalists has a vacancy for a Journalist Safety Specialist in a negotiable location. The main responsibility of the Journalist Safety Specialist is to recognize growing dangers for journalists and enable the responses of the CPJ. S/he will be expected to gather information on threats, coordinate with the crises team, contribute to knowledge and capacity building, speak publically on issues, construct publications that outline issues, deploy to hostile environments when necessary, and improve and update security awareness on a variety of mediums. A graduate degree in a relevant field is required for this position, as well as at least 5 years of experience in journalism. The Journalist Safety Specialist must be fluent in written and spoken English. A proficiency in other languages would be an advantage. The candidate must have the ability to function in high stress, dangerous and hostile environments while producing high-quality work and managing several activities at once.
