Human Rights Officer

Field Missions Administered by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) is hiring a qualified Human Rights Officer located in GOMA. He/She works directly with other components of the UN peace operation, including the police and military, to integrate human rights considerations into the planning and review of their programs and operations, including through developing procedures and policies, as appropriate. Additionally the successful candidate plans, designs, implements and evaluates strategies for the mainstreaming of human rights in the activities of the UN peace mission and the UNCT and advocates for the integration of human rights in these programmes. Also the successful candidate contributes to advocacy strategies, advocates and advises relevant authorities, inducting State officials, the UN Country Team (UNCT) and the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT), UN and Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) senior management on strategies to better protect and promote human rights and mechanisms to stop impunity and redress human rights violations. She/He will have an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related area. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the human rights or closely related field, of which at least half in the area of human rights are required to apply for this position. Personal Assistant to the High Commissioner

The Office Of The High Commissioner For Human Rights is offering a position as Personal Assistant to the High Commissioner based in GENEVA. He/She assists the High Commissioner in the organization of work, arranges and updates details of the High Commissioner’s commitments, including the elaboration and alteration of appointments; ascertains which commitments can be accommodated within the existing schedule, anticipating overlaps, suggesting priorities among pending requests and maintaining related records and files. Additionally the successful candidate assesses, responds, distributes/ refers correspondence, documents, information, telephone and personal inquiries made by Division Directors, Chiefs of Branch, other OHCHR staff, as well as members of Permanent Missions, civil society and others. Also the successful candidate requests and keeps track of files for meetings and conferences in which the High Commissioner is involved and organizes and keeps up-to-date system of files comprising both correspondence and documentation, including that of a confidential, personal and political nature. She/He will have a completion of secondary school or its equivalent technical or commercial school. At least 10 years of administrative and senior secretarial experience, of which preferably five years within the United Nations system are required to apply for this position. Human Rights Officer

Additionally the successful candidate plans and coordinates activities related to human rights, including from a gender perspective, in the designated area of assignment. Also the successful candidate conducts substantive research and analysis of human rights issues/events and assesses their impact on the human rights situation in assigned region. She/He will have an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or in an area related to human rights. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area are required to apply for this position. Senior Human Rights Officer

The Office Of The High Commissioner For Human Rights is looking for a qualified Senior Human Rights Officer in GENEVA. He/She will be responsible for the overall management of the COI Secretariat. Additionally the successful candidate will ensure that the Commissioners and the COI Secretariat carry out their tasks in accordance with agreed strategic objectives. Also the successful candidate will oversee the activities of the COI Secretariat including defining the methodology and tools to collect and process all data. She/He will have an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in law, international relations, political sciences or other disciplines related to human rights. At least 10 years of progressively responsible work experience in human rights with five years of experience in managing teams are required to apply for this position. Human Rights Officer (Reporting Officer/legal Advisor)

The Office Of The High Commissioner For Human Rights is looking for a qualified Human Rights Officer (Reporting Officer/legal Advisor) based in GENEVA. The main duties of this vacancy include to coordinate the drafting of all reports of the Commission based on the analysis of information-gathering activities conducted by the COI Secretariat members. Additionally the successful candidate will define trends of human rights violations and abuses and violations of international criminal law, based on the information gathered by the Commission. Also the successful candidate will identify gaps and orient the investigation accordingly. Eligible candidates must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in law. At least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in human rights is required. Experience providing legal advice to human rights or criminal investigations are required to apply for this position. To apply for this position fluency is required in English and French.
