The Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition is an annual competition held in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Palais des Nations. The event is open to teams of current law students in undergraduate and master’s level programs. Every accredited law school in the world may send one team of two students to the event. During one day of the competition, students attend seminars and participate in activities to help them learn more about the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Human Rights Council. Then, they compete, arguing hypothetical cases in front of a panel. Five teams are chosen from each UN region to advance to the next round.
In 2017, the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition will be held from July 18 to July 21. Students who wish to register may do so online. The deadline for application is June 12, 2017. A hypothetical case will be released on January 1, 2017, for teams to review.
