Delve into the research behind terrorism as you unpack the assumptions and impacts of both terrorism and counterterrorism.
Terrorism and Counterterrorism: Comparing Theory and Practice is an online course that is offered for free by the Institute of Public Administration at Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands. Coursework is presented entirely in English but is subtitled in Spanish, Serbian and French.
Intended for beginners with no previous experience in the subject, the course examines what is driving terrorism around the globe and how countries are seeking to respond to it.
To complete all of the work for Terrorism and Counterterrorism: Comparing Theory and Practice, students will need to spend about 30 hours of time total. The course is designed to be completed over an eight-week period; however, students can work at their own pace if they wish.
Each week, students are given one to 10 videos to watch and one to 10 readings to read. Six written assignments and a final exam are included in the coursework. Students who pass all of the assignments and the test will successfully complete the course. A certificate of completion can be provided for a small charge.
