The International Committee of the Red Cross was founded in 1863 to help individuals whose lives have been devastated by wars, conflicts and armed violence. Today, the organization operates around the world, helping individuals overcome hardship while acting as activists to encourage the enforcement of laws that protect victims of war.
Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Committee of the Red Cross has more than 14,500 employees working in over 80 countries. The organization is funded primarily through donations made by governments from around the world as well as from funds from the Red Crescent and Red Cross.
The organization is involved with relief and advocacy work related to a number of issues, including sexual violence, economic insecurity, disability services, forensic science and humanitarian action, health care, immigration and refugees, mine safety and environmental protection. Because of their strong infrastructure, the organization is able to deploy quickly when conflicts and disasters occur around the world.
Currently, the International Committee of the Red Cross is accepting applications for 5 traineeships at their Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy Division. A traineeship is similar to an internship in that it is a short-term position, but the purpose is to provide the candidate with practical experience and more in-depth training than a traditional internship role.
ICRC is hiring a qualified Trainee at the Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy Division located in various locations. He/She will be analysing humanitarian trends, issues and policy developments. Additionally the successful candidate will be preparing/attending conferences, seminars and bilateral meetings. Also the successful candidate will be conducting research, writing speeches/speaking points, drafting reports, taking minutes of meetings. She/He will have a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. international relations, international politics, international law, humanitarian action, development, peace/conflict studies, etc.). A minimum of 6 months full-time prior experience with an international organisation, an NGO or within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and no more than 2 years of relevant experience are required to apply for this position.
