He/She participates in identifying and specifying the needs of governments for advisory services and technical cooperation as well as in the preparation and implementation of respective country projects. Additionally the successful candidate participates in the systematic collection and analysis of information regarding the human rights situation in one or several countries of a given region and in the preparation of reports, documents and other written materials thereon. Also the successful candidate participates in the processing of individual cases of alleged violations under thematic mechanisms, including under the urgent action procedure. She/He will have an Advanced university degree, preferably in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights. At least two years of professional experience at national and/or international levels in the field of human rights are needed to qualify for this vacancy. The Office Of The High Commissioner for Human Rights is offering a position as Associate Human Rights Officer based in Geneva. Among the duties of this position is to assist in the research and collection of information regarding one or several thematic phenomena worldwide in the area of human rights through analysis of information from governments, IGOs, UN agencies, funds and programmes, as well as NGOs and individuals. Additionally the successful candidate will assist in planning and organizing sessions/consultations/workshops as required by the assigned mandate (s) which would entail preparing concept notes, background documents, agendas, identifying and inviting participants and coordinating all logistical aspects of these events. The successful applicant will also participate in the drafting of reports and other documents, notably correspondence with Governments, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations or individuals relating to the assigned mandate(s) of the Human Rights Council. Eligible candidates must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations or related area. A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in human rights are required to apply for this position. To apply for this position fluency is required in English.
