The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is looking for junior and mid-level programme officers to join their talent pool. The talent pool is a set number of ready-to-hire individuals who can be deployed by the UNHCR to the field at short notice. Depending on the needs of the organisation, deployment can be to any location and contracts can be short or long term.
The principal role of the Programme Officer is to assist in all aspects of programming for refugees, internally displaced and stateless persons. Among other duties, the incumbent will be responsible for undertaking field visits, assessing the needs of the people in the country and planning programmes designed to fill those needs. S/he must ensure that activities are completed in a timely manner and that monitoring, and reporting is in line with UNHCR programming policies and guidelines. Additionally, the Programme Officer will need to support fundraising activities and maintain communications with donor representatives.
For the junior positions, the successful applicant/s will have a degree in Economics, Business Administration, Social Science or a related field plus at least two years of relevant experience with a graduate degree (masters or above), or three years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree (BA/BS). For mid-level positions, a minimum of five years of relevant experience is required with a graduate degree and six years relevant experience with an undergraduate degree. Fluency in English is required.
