This unique training opportunity allows individuals interested in international relations to engage in face-to-face training activities combined with a vacation in Geneva, Switzerland. The UN Immersion Programme gives participants direct access to the United Nations, offering opportunities for networking and insights into United Nations career paths.

The United Nations Immersion Programme includes expert lecturers, training workshops, conferences, and guided tours through UN premises. In dedicated career development sessions, your CV, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile will be reviewed.

The field visit also includes activities with the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and other Geneva-based institutions.

The United Nations Immersion Programme is available in three editions:

  • July Edition (18 – 22 July 2022);
  • August Edition (22 – 26 August 2022);
  • Winter Edition (30 January – 3 February 2023).

All interested participants are welcome to apply, and spots will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. A maximum of 30 participants are accepted per edition.

Directly prior to each field visit, UNITAR also offers the four-week United Nations Young Leaders Online Training Programme. The UN Young Leaders Training Programme contains live webinars, e-workshops and virtual guided tours that can be together with the field visit.

In situations where participants registered for the UN Winter Immersion Programme are unable to travel to Switzerland due to COVID-19-related travel restrictions, it is possible for them to attend the UN Young Leaders Programme free of charge.

In addition, their slot for the field visit to Geneva will be automatically transferred to the next edition of the UN Immersion Programme in 2022 or later, with no additional costs for the participant.
