The MA Social Justice and Community Engagement at the University of Hull is a postgraduate programme that focuses on understanding and responding to social inequalities through community‑based learning, research and action. It encourages students to critically examine how concepts of social justice are connected to lived experiences and collective efforts to address issues such as poverty, exclusion, health disparities, migration, and cultural difference.

Teaching combines academic study with practical engagement, emphasising participatory methods and collaboration with community partners. Core modules explore theories of justice, community practice and research methods, while students also have opportunities to undertake projects that involve direct interaction with community organisations, advocacy initiatives or policy work. This blend of theory and practice supports the development of informed, reflective practitioners.

The programme culminates in an independent research project that enables students to investigate a topic of personal and professional interest, often with a community focus. Graduates are equipped with strong analytical, communication and project management skills, preparing them for roles in community development, social policy, advocacy, research, the voluntary sector or further academic study where expertise in social justice and community engagement is valued.
