Ruhr University Bochum offers a Master of Arts in Humanitarian Action through the NOHA (Network on Humanitarian Action) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Programme. This two-year, multidisciplinary programme provides high-quality academic education and professional competencies for personnel working or intending to work in humanitarian action. The first semester includes common NOHA courses covering world politics, legal dimensions of humanitarian action, people and culture, management, and public health. In the second semester, students undertake a thematic specialisation at one of the NOHA partner universities across Europe. Specialisation options include Humanitarian Action Management, International Humanitarian Law, International Relations in Humanitarian Action, Public Health in Humanitarian Action, Anthropology in Humanitarian Action, and International Organizations in Humanitarian Emergencies. In the third semester, students choose between a work placement or regional training at a partner university outside Europe. The programme concludes with a master’s dissertation based on independent research. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in law, medicine, international relations, political science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, management, economics, geography, communications, or a closely related field. Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available. Over 3,500 graduates work in humanitarian relief and international cooperation globally.
