The MSc Equality Studies at University College Dublin is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme that examines global social justice, equality and human rights from a critical perspective. It encourages students to engage deeply with how inequalities operate across societies, encompassing issues such as gender justice, human rights, global inequalities, discrimination against minorities and social movements. The course blends theory and practice, enabling learners to explore structural causes of inequality and to consider strategies for positive social change.

Teaching adopts a student‑centred and participatory approach that emphasises dialogue, reflection and collaborative learning. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar, real‑world contexts and to communicate their insights clearly to specialist and non‑specialist audiences. The curriculum includes a mix of core and elective content, allowing learners to tailor their studies to areas of particular interest within the broader field of equality and justice.

A key component of the programme is an optional minor dissertation or project, which develops independent research skills and supports in‑depth engagement with chosen topics. Graduates develop strong analytical, communication and problem‑solving skills valued in careers with international organisations, advocacy groups, policy research, education and other sectors related to social justice and equality work.
