The MSc Gender and International Relations at the University of Bristol offers an interdisciplinary and critical exploration of how gender shapes, and is shaped by, global politics. The programme brings together perspectives from feminist theory, gender studies, cultural and sexuality studies alongside international relations, enabling students to analyse power, identity and inequality across global systems.

Students engage with key debates in areas such as international political economy, security, development and global governance, developing a nuanced understanding of how gender influences policy, diplomacy and everyday political practices. A combination of core and optional units allows for flexibility, with opportunities to specialise in topics such as climate change, transitional justice, or digital economies.

Teaching emphasises critical thinking, theoretical engagement and the application of concepts to contemporary global issues. The programme culminates in an independent dissertation, where students conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choice with academic supervision.

Graduates develop strong analytical, research and communication skills, preparing them for careers in areas such as policy, international development, advocacy, diplomacy and further academic study, supported by an understanding of global politics through an intersectional and gender-aware lens.
