The MA Race, Media and Social Justice at Goldsmiths, University of London is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme that critically examines how race and racial justice are represented, constructed and contested within media, culture and society. It combines critical theory with media analysis to help students understand how different forms of media contribute to public discourses about identity, inequality and power, and how these narratives shape social justice outcomes.

Core topics include racialisation, identity politics, representation and activism, explored through a range of media forms such as film, television, digital storytelling, journalism and cultural production. Students engage with contemporary debates about race, intersectionality and social movements, developing skills in critical analysis, research and media critique. Teaching is delivered through interactive seminars, collaborative projects and independent study, fostering reflective and creative engagement with complex social issues.

The programme also emphasises methodological rigour and encourages students to undertake independent research culminating in a substantial dissertation, where they can investigate themes of personal and academic interest. Graduates gain advanced analytical, communication and research skills suited to careers in media, cultural analysis, advocacy, academia and related fields where understanding race and media’s impact on society is essential.
