At the University of Oslo, you can study either Bachelor’s degree level or Master’s degree level courses during the summer as a short introductory programme. This course in Human Rights is at Master’s degree level and can be combined with other courses at the same level. During the 6-week course you will be introduced to the history, philosophy and politics of human rights and human rights law. From a philosophical position you will debate the legitimacy and justification of universal human rights and from a historical perspective you will study the evolution of the modern human rights system. Furthermore, your study of human rights law will be analysed within an international context. Through these interdisciplinary studies you will learn more about the most important characteristics of human rights treaties, such as application and enforcement, and the political and legal impact of human rights on both a national and international scale.
