Starting a Nonprofit is an online course offered by ed2go. The class is ideal for anyone who is interested in starting a new nonprofit or turning an existing group into a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. In addition, the class can assist those who currently manage existing nonprofits. An introductory course, the class has no educational or work experience prerequisites and is open to everyone.

A self-paced program, Starting a Nonprofit can be taken at any time. Enrollment is offered on a rolling basis, so students can choose their own start date. The course consists of 24 hours of videos as well as supplemental assignments to help students master the course material. Ideally, the class is designed to be completed at a rate of two lessons per week over a six-week period.

During the first week of Starting a Nonprofit, basic nonprofit terminology is introduced and students are given an opportunity to craft a mission statement for their organization. The second week covers the importance of a board of directors and provides guidelines for how to choose one. Then, the unit moves onto discuss how to draft bylaws and articles of incorporation. In the third week, the class discusses the steps that must be taken to start a nonprofit and the licensing and tax laws that apply to nonprofits. The fourth week deals with recruiting volunteers and employees. Fundraising strategy is the focus of the fifth week, and the six week teaches students how to use the Internet to spread the word about their nonprofits.
